As we jump in, let me say that camDown helps stop hackers from getting access to the webcam that I use for my work. Now I can get even more gigs as a freelancer and advertise that I have top security with my home computer.
How about never port forward your NAS? Use a VPN if you need to access your NAS remotely.
Among many other safeguards, I use a VPN with my clients and Synology QuickConnect on the server. No open ports at all for a VPN or otherwise. Also, I have hardened the router firewall, etc.
When other Synology NAS users with self-hosted VPNs were reporting many, multiple access attempts a while ago — I didn't get affected at all.
Details on my methodology here (however sound or unsound it may be):
After all of that camDown is your security solution to protect you and your business from webcam hackers and your father would feel the same!
