In the December 30 COVID-19 update from The Saskatchewan Health Authority they are reporting a total of 589 new confirmed cases of the virus in the province.

Of those 589 new cases there are 3 in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North East zone, 20 in the North West zone, 18 in the North Central zone, 4 in the North East zone, 242 in the Saskatoon zone, 18 in the Central West zone, 44 in the Central East zone, 137 in the Regina zone, 20 in the South Central zone, and 27 in the South East zone.

There are 24 new confirmed cases in the South West zone - 1 in South West subzone 1, and 23 in South West subzone 2.

Six cases were assigned as follows - 2 to the Saskatoon zone, 2 to the Regina zone, and 2 to the South East zone.

One Saskatchewan resident tested positive out of the province was added to the case counts in the Saskatoon zone.

Two Saskatchewan residents who tested positive earlier (possibly in a private lab) were added to the case counts in the Saskatoon zone.

One duplicate case was removed from the Regina zone.

That brings the provincial total number of cases to 84,446, of which 2,176 are considered active.

There are 50 active cases in the South West zone - 5 in South West subzone 1, and 45 in South West subzone 2.

Almost one-half (46.5%) of new cases are in the 20 to 39 age category.

More than one-half (52.3%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 5 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers is 257 (21.3 new cases per 100,000 population).

There were 4 new deaths reported, bringing the provincial total number of deaths to 955.

There were 56 recoveries reported, 1 of those in the South West zone, bringing the provincial total number of recoveries to 81,315.

There are 79 people in the hospital - 65 receiving inpatient care, and 14 in intensive care.

Of those 79 patients, 47 (59.5%) were not fully vaccinated.

Of the 17,605 variants of concern cases in the province identified by whole genome sequencing, 7,123 are Alpha (B.1.1.7), 10 are Beta (B.1.351), 484 are Gamma (P.1), 9,871 are Delta (B.A.617.2), and 117 are Omicron (B.1.1.529).

To date, 1,328,343 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan.

And yesterday, there were 2,508 COVID-19 tests processed in the province.

There were 1,751 COVID-19 vaccinations administered yesterday, 56 of those in the South West zone.

That brings the provincial total number of vaccinations given to 1,798,358.

And there are now 856,332 Saskatchewan residents who are fully vaccinated.
