SHILLONG, Nov 24: Ransomware has crossed the threshold of crime and has now become a concern of national security.

This was informed by National Cyber Security Coordinator, Lieutenant General Rajesh Pant, during a two-day conference on ‘Managing Cyberspace in the Indo-Pacific — The Global Dialogue Security Summit’, at the State Convention Centre on Wednesday.

Stating that most ransomware attacks are pressing threats faced by both public and private sectors, he informed that 32 nations have come together and devised a counter-ransomware initiative in four verticals — network and security resilience, tracing illicit finance, disruption of the network and cyber diplomacy.

According to him, digitisation due to COVID-19 has further aggravatd the problem.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, will deliver a special address on Thursday during the session on cyberspace connectivity for peace and development in the North Eastern region.
