Can I Still Get Into a 80k-100k Cybersecurity I.T Job with an Associates Degree?

can-i-still-get-into-a-80k-100k-cybersecurity-i.t-job-with-an-associates-degree?

Did you know that camDown is a highly advanced, specialized webcam blocker and disabler with the best in class protection from variety of on-line threats?

Wholesome

I can't afford to go to college/university even with financial aid and i know for sure that i still won't have enough even after i get my associates degree and with financial aid so I'm kinda stuck with just going to community college for 2 yrs and thats it

Am I still able to get into a 80k-100k Cybersecurity I.T Job with an Associates Degree? Also what are some good companies to work for?

Yes. Better yet, research companies and target an internship at one of the larger and well established orgs working in cybersecurity. Tackle your internship with the intent of turning it into a job offer. Most companies offer tuition assistance for employees, so you can end up getting paid a salary while your company pays for your education.

Hack your life like you mean it.

Also am I even able to find companies in Missouri? I'm worried that I'd have to travel extremely far or something in my state, can I get an internship virtually or something? When I get into the job I'd want to preferably work at home anyway because of possible far travel to get to the company and also housing close to the company which I wouldn't be able to afford

Thanks, this was really helpful

Anyway to hack that with extra hours to actually go to school, instead of the tuition reimbursement.

Attend WGU and get a bachelors in Cyber Security. If you have no money for tuition you will get the Pell grant after completing FAFSA. After that deduction tuition is only $710 per term which you can take out as a loan if you need to. It’s all online and you can take as many courses as you can do. With an associate you will get a lot of transfer credit. The bachelor of science degree comes with a lot of certifications which will help boost your resume and learn applicable skills. Look into it.

Get security+ and a help desk job. Get mentors at your job in sysadmin/networking/security and help them with projects. Then apply for a security job after 3 years

(No degree here and that’s what worked for me although I did about 8 years in IT first and did many projects with AAD, EDR, etc)

This is my exact path as well.

level 2

This is almost identical to my path. Starting my first six figure job on the 15th! I have two expired industry certs and an associates degree in IT from an online university.

Just work hard and bank experience. It’s a grind (still is every day), but you can definitely get there.

I have a infosec job with an exorbitant salary... With an art degree.

The space cares a lot more about knowledge and skills than a diploma.

level 2

Wow, such an intriguing path...can you please describe your evolution from the art degree to your current job?

level 1

You can get 80-100k without any degree in IT.

Getting that with just an associates and no experience, as your first job though? A pipedream.

level 1

Yep I was in the same boat as you. Go work for an MSP for a little bit. Pay typically sucks but the amount you’ll learn is in valuable at the early stage of your career. I then transitioned internally to cyber security. Then found an internal Security job at a big company.

level 2

What job title did you search for to find the internal security position? The job titles are so broad in security

Interesting response’s here, in my market a cybersecurity staff with some experience is only paid 70 - 80. What markets do someone with zero experience getting 100k?

level 2

Mostly west coast companies or tech companies looking to take on some less experienced folks to mentor and grow.

level 1

Why is your goal 80-100k?

And... Yes, you can, but you really need to learn what you're doing. And have a goal/focus.

level 2

I want money that I have no idea what to do with, once I move back in with my parents after I graduate college assuming I don't have enough to get myself an apartment by the time I graduate, get my I.T cybersecurity job I wanna move out asap

level 1

Absolutely. I make over 6 figs and only have an Associates

level 2

And did you walk into that job with no experience like OP?

Don't forget that camDown helps stop foreign state actors (FSA's) from accessing your webcam!
