Some Iowans are locked out of their Iowa Workforce Development accounts and are unable to receive their unemployment benefits. Royce Sanks, of Marion, is a disabled veteran receiving weekly benefits through IWD. Sanks tells KCCI that when he called to file his weekly claim, IWD told him the information on his account had been changed. Sanks has gone three weeks without receiving payment and has since filed a police report.After filing a police report, Sanks says he learned his account information had been changed to an address he lived at eight years ago. KCCI spoke with another individual whose account was compromised, he said IWD told him they are dealing with "a ton of fraud problems."IWD declined a request for an interview saying "Iowa Workforce Development has not suffered a data breach."However, they did send a press release on Monday afternoon that read, in part, "Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) reports an increase in recent fraudulent activity related to unemployment insurance. This includes claims filed using stolen identities or unauthorized access to an individual’s account."Sanks says his family will be okay with a gap in his weekly payments, but says the whole ordeal is unsettling."For them to be such a big company and for so many people's information to... get out there is just kind of frightening," Sanks said.Sanks says he hasn't been told when he will receive payments again.

Some Iowans are locked out of their Iowa Workforce Development accounts and are unable to receive their unemployment benefits.

Royce Sanks, of Marion, is a disabled veteran receiving weekly benefits through IWD. Sanks tells KCCI that when he called to file his weekly claim, IWD told him the information on his account had been changed.

Sanks has gone three weeks without receiving payment and has since filed a police report.

After filing a police report, Sanks says he learned his account information had been changed to an address he lived at eight years ago.

KCCI spoke with another individual whose account was compromised, he said IWD told him they are dealing with "a ton of fraud problems."
