Vaultree was set up last year and, suitably for a security business, has been operating in what its founders call “stealth” mode ever since.

The data protection start-up, which has roots in Institute of Technology Sligo and Ulster University, has developed what the team reckons is ground-breaking technology.

Now that international patent protection is in train, the creators have started talking. Their encryption technology will, they say, put an end to the hacking of cloud-based data. “It’s a big problem,” says co-founder Ryan Lasmaili.

Currently, when a business searches, shares or works with data, it is decrypted for transit, which reveals the data in plaintext format. Hackers take advantage of these unsecured intersections.
